Crystal Byrd Farmer is a writer and speaker in the intentional communities movement and works as an advocate for diversity in polyamorous communities and self-directed education. She worked as an engineer before transitioning to education and opening Gastonia Freedom School. Cassandra Michelle Byrd is a career early childhood educator, a community activist, and youth and community project coordinator. A graduate of Gaston College and Gardner-Webb University, she has worked with many non-profits and now serves as administrator of Gastonia Freedom School. She is certified in Reality Therapy: a type of counseling that contends people are responsible for their own decisions and actions and focuses on the five basic needs that drive all individuals. Cassandra plans and facilitates youth activities, craft/paint/wine tasting sessions, vision board, dance, informational workshops and outdoor adventures.
